Earth Day 2021: school and university clubs take the lead

ASDA organised a colourful Earth Day event in 2021, run through the school and university environment and nutrition clubs it supports.

The event was recognised twice over. CNN issued ASDA a certificate of appreciation for organising the event, and Kathleen Rogers, President of EARTHDAY.ORG, wrote to thank ASDA for actively participating in the effort to protect mother Earth and to celebrate Earth Day.

Club-based awareness work is a deliberate part of ASDA's strategy rather than a one-off campaign. School and university clubs carry environmental and nutrition messages into households that field staff cannot reach directly, and they give young people a first practical role in conservation — seedling raising, tree planting, clean-up work and peer education on the Sustainable Development Goals.

The same clubs feed into ASDA's wider youth agenda: the organisation's Executive Director has served the Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network as country coordinator for Ethiopia, and is a Food System Ambassador for the East Africa region.
