Is ASDA a registered organisation?
Yes. ASDA was established in 2003 and is registered with the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia's Authority for Civil Society Organizations under certificate No. 0247. It was first registered by the Ministry of Justice as an indigenous NGO and re-registered on 28 October 2009 as an Ethiopian Resident Charity. A General Assembly is the supreme organ of the association.
Where does ASDA work?
ASDA is registered to work at national level. Current operational areas are Dodota, Hetossa, Ziway Dugda and Tiyo woredas in Arsi Zone and Meki in East Shewa Zone (Oromia); Mojana Wodera and Minjar Shenkora in North Shewa Zone (Amhara); and Kindo Koiysha in Wolayita Zone. How does ASDA choose the communities it works with?
Through a tripartite partnership with the community, government and civil society. Woreda and zonal government offices, farmer and community organisations and ASDA agree priorities together, and programmes are designed around what the community itself identifies — which is why several woredas have written to request expansion.
What makes ASDA's approach different?
Integration. A household's food, income and natural resource base rise and fall together, so the same programme that reclaims degraded land also builds income, nutrition and water supply. ASDA also invests deliberately in research–extension–farmer linkages so that what works in one woreda travels.
How are contributions used and accounted for?
Contributions go into working capital and materials for community groups — seedlings, stove moulds, poultry, irrigation materials — plus the training that makes them productive. ASDA operates strict fund administration, supervision and internal control, and institutional donors can request the registration certificate, audited accounts and annual report.
Can I donate online with a card?
Not at present. ASDA accepts contributions by bank transfer to its Commercial Bank of Ethiopia accounts — one in Birr and one foreign currency account. The details are on the Support Our Work page, along with a pledge form so we can issue a receipt and report back.
Can I volunteer or do an internship with ASDA?
Yes — agronomists, nutritionists, water engineers, communications and monitoring specialists, and students on placement all have a place in our field and office teams. Register your interest on the Get Involved page.
How can a school or university get involved?
Schools and universities can set up an environment and nutrition club and join ASDA's SDG awareness network. Clubs take part in campaigns such as Earth Day, raise seedlings and run peer education. Write to asdaeth@ethionet.et to start one.
